Flashback of the Day: Dayton Schlosser

The shot below of model Dayton Schlosser is one of my all time favorite photos. Given the attention this shot received, Dayton did not appear to model extensively beyond his work with Abercrombie and Fitch. There was his spread in Out Magazine and a few other campaigns but most of the talk about Dayton at the time was his being an English teacher and how his modeling work would effect his ability to be taken seriously in front of a classroom.

According to Dayton's friend Meg, Dayton left teaching and currently works in MA as a graphic designer. Whatever he is doing, Dayton and his modeling had an impact on my early days surfing the net with his incredible face and body. You can check out more shots of Dayton at my previous post HERE:

Flashback: Chris Evans in Cellular

As I told you all awhile ago I am throwing out/giving away many of my old VHS tapes and DVD's. Just the ones I don't think I shall ever watch again. It pains me to give away 'Cellular', not because the movie was so great, it was not. But 'Cellular', as you all are aware, has one of the best shirtless scenes with on of Hollywood's best chests. Hope Chris Evans gets another good role soon. To me, his desire to move from Hunk, to actor has actually decreased his appeal with some lackluster movies over the past year or two. The talk of him being offered the role in the new Captain America movie could be that role.

Flashback: First And Last with Dermot Mulroney

The first time I saw Dermot Mulroney on screen was in 1989's 'Survival Quest'. This highly watchable movie also starred Lance Henriksen and the woman who would go on to become Dermot's wife (the very talented, and just as annoying Catherine Keener. The have since divorced). I instantly fell in love with Dermot who played the movie's bad boy turned hero. I thought I remembered a brief flash of Dermot's beautiful behind in this flick jumping into the water but I must have made it up as it was not on my recent rewatching of this movie.

The Last Time I lusted after Dermot on screen was rewatching 'The Family Stone' with my family this past Christmas. I also recently watched 'The Wedding Date' (well...I watched the scene below a few times then pressed eject).

Saturday Flashback: Keanu Reeves in 'Parenthood'

I remember going to see 'Parenthood' in 1989 with my entire family. I think it was the only movie we went to as a group. Usually when we were all together, at least 2 of my siblings would get into it one way or another. I was about 13 or 14 and remember how much I liked the film. Keanu in his tighty whities was a highlight at the time.

Re watching 'Parenthood' again recently, it still holds up. Keanu is still a hit, but I also love the work of all the cast, especially the wonderful Dianne Wiest who I have loved in so many movies. Keanu in his undies aside, my favorite scene involves an actor I once loved, Joaquin Phoenix. Long before he got so odd Joaquin made some great flicks. The scene in 'Parenthood' where he calls his father on the phone, only to be rejected hit me hard then, whacks and emotional punch now.

FlashBack: Richard Gere in American Gigolo

I remember when I was about 5 or 6 I would get home from school and most days my mother and one or two of her friends would be in the kitchen talk, smoking and drinking coffee. There was something comforting about playing in the next room listening to their conversations. Not sure many kids have this same experience today. (the smoking aside). Certain parts of their conversations used to stick with me, especially when they were talking about men in the neighbourhood or movies they enjoyed. I remember one day in particular them discussing seeing 'American Gigolo'. I did not even know what the word gigolo meant, but I knew one day I had to see that movie.

Cut to 7 or 8 years later I have my own tv in my room with my own vcr (a beta machine given to me by a relative no less). Beta was already on the way out and there was only one place that I knew to rent beta tapes. Walking down the isle I saw the case for 'American Gigolo' and the memory of that kitchen conversation came flooding back. Home I went with AG (and Star Wars...whenever I rented something with male nudity, I always rented Star Wars as well.).

Richard Gere was a site to behold. Now I was still to young to really like the movie (actually I am not sure I like the movie today) but I was old enough to enjoy Mr. Gere. Although the far off frontal was a highlight, to me it was Gere hanging upside down wearing his inversion boots that had me wild.

American Gigolo is informally considered the second installment in director Paul Schrader's "lonely man" trilogy, following the Martin Scorsese directed Taxi Driver (1976) and preceding Light Sleeper (1992).

It is a blessing to me that John Travolta got cold feet and turned down the role that went to Gere. This is not the only role that Travolta has turned down only to be taken by Gere; it had previously happened with Days of Heaven (1978), and occurred again when Travolta was offered the lead in both An Officer and A Gentleman (1982) and Chicago (2002) Besides Gere and Travolta, the other actors that were offered the lead role were Christopher Reeve (who reportedly turned down a million dollar fee) and Chevy Chase (can't really see that one).
